*  Women's Equality Day takes place on August 26 every year to celebrate the 19th Amendment in the United States of America that provides equal rights to the women. This amendment granted equal voting rights to men and women. Women across the world celebrate this day as an equality day.

* The Amendment was first introduced in 1878. It was first celebrated in 1973 and continues to be celebrated every year.

* On August 26, 1920, Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby signed a proclamation.

* The U.S. Congress designated August 26 as “Women’s Equality Day in 1971.

* The color for Women's Equality Day is purple and is worn to show support.

* This is enshrined in Article 326 in the Indian constitution.

* All women's in India were allowed to vote to start from the first elections in 1951-52.
